Summary/Abstract: The discovery of previously unknown works by Johannes Bass (c. 1600–after 1656), an engraver and goldsmith active in Elbląg and Gdańsk, gives an opportunity to take a fresh look at artistically diverse works of this undervalued artist. Bass is the author of a cup with cover, one of the most remarkable pieces of early modern era festive silverware. The decoration of this item, as well as other works by Bass, was inspired by the etchings of Jacques Callot, a famous French engraver of the 17th century. Apart from analysing Bass’s oeuvre, the article indicates the need for further study of the intensity of the reception of Jacques Callot’s works.
