Summary/Abstract: Questions of authenticity are currently experiencing a questionable renaissance. Based on their topicality and history, this article follows Sartre in drawing attention to the question of whether the concept of authenticity can be claimed and asserted towards others in a way that is not merely selfrighteous and self-serving. This question gives the concept of authenticity a socio-philosophical twist that goes beyond existential self-relations, as they are at the forefront of Sartre's work and the subsequent discussion. In doing so, the desideratum of a socio-philosophical critique of human selfrighteousness emerges.
