Summary/Abstract: The consequences of the breakup of a marriage, quantified in psychological effects on the spouses, depend on the existence of children, the affection invested in the marriage, who initiated the divorce process, the value of the partners on the erotic and marital market, the structure of the spouses' family of origin, as well as the size of their group of friends. Stress, as a result of the changes that occurred in the area of divorce, can lead to mental disorders, primarily depression and excessive alcohol or drug consumption, manifestations that can materialize in negative effects on the children for both partners. In the contemporary vision, however, we observe that a new conception of divorce is increasingly taking shape, different from the traditional one, perceived in certain circumstances as an optimal solution, when the marriage is no longer viable. Therefore, we can retain the idea that divorce, regarding specific cases, generates both positive and negative effects. The effects of this trauma will manifest themselves depending on the character and personality of each person, but the highest costs are those that affect children.
