Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to identify potential pathways for advancing research on the culture – particularly the location of sacred sites – of early Slavs, with a special focus on the Carpathian region. Building on tried-and-tested interdisciplinary methods (archaeological, historical, ethnographic, and linguistic), new avenues are opened by the application of digital technologies, including geoinformatics tools. These technologies make it possible not only to mark the known locations of strongholds, temples, sacred groves, and other cult sites on a map, but also – through the use of appropriately developed maps – to indicate additional potential locations significant to Slavic beliefs, which may serve as a starting point for subsequent stages of research. Combined with traditional tools and scientific disciplines, this approach can assist studies on Slavic culture and help identify the potential locations of yet unknown Slavic sacred sites.
