Summary/Abstract: This paper explores the position of women in contemporary Bosnian-Herzegovinian families, focusing on the influence of traditional and modern values, societal expectations, and personal ambitions. The aim of the research was to examine the extent to which value systems affect how women perceive their family roles and personal developmental aspirations. The study was conducted using a survey method on a sample of 97 women of varying ages and socioeconomic backgrounds in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Correlation analysis revealed statistically significant associations between traditional values and feelings of internal tension, as well as the expression of identity-related dilemmas. In contrast, modern values did not show a significant connection with changes in women’s expectations and ambitions. The findings point to the existence of value dualism, where women often navigate between inherited norms and contemporary roles. The paper concludes that the transformation of women’s position within the family is progressing slowly and requires both institutional and societal changes to better support the reconciliation of family and professional roles.
