Summary/Abstract: Among all genres of legal literature, the university textbook remains the dominant form in the academic training of jurists. Criticized by some authors because of the risk of stereotyping in scientific discourse—a risk inherent in any intellectual product with a pedagogical vocation—the university textbook nonetheless remains the central vehicle for the autonomy and consolidation of a university discipline. As has been noted, “a new discipline often acquires its legitimacy and academic visibility through its textbooks.”
