Summary/Abstract: The work deals with the topic of Concelebrating Archbishops, which is an indispensable part of the register of the painting program of the altar space of Serbian churches of the 13th century. The change of narrative in the representation of the bishops in the altar space, from a teacher and defender of the faith to a liturgist, is the result of Christological disputes at the end of the 11th and in the 12th century. As part of the theme Serving the Holy Liturgy, which through the liturgical service expresses the Church’s dogmatic teaching about the Incarnation and the nature of the Eucharistic sacrifice, in a bent position and holding scrolls with written liturgical prayers, the Concelebrating Archbishops bear witness to the canonical structure of the Church. The selection of the most famous archbishops of various local churches and the presentation of local archbishops aims to indicate that all churches have the same fullness of grace. When the autocephaly of the Serbian Church was called into question in the 13th century, in the paintings of Sopoćani, in the altar apse of the Catholicon, by choosing one prayer of the Trisagion Song on the scrolls of all bishops, the moment when a bishop is ordained at Liturgies was highlighted to signified one of the main characteristic of the autocephalous church which is independent ordination of a bishops.
