Summary/Abstract: The article analyses, deeply embedded in the postcolonial Ukrainian space, the historiosophical narratives of the writer and philosopher Oksana Zabuzhko. They present a portrait of a historically and culturally battered Ukraine, afflicted by Russian totalitarianism, but still struggling to restore a pro-European orientation to Ukrainian identity and culture. Against the backdrop of her nation’s collective amnesia, Zabuzhko undertakes a mission to recover repressed historical memory, to overcome the nationwide barrier of silence that allowed Ukrainians to survive the “Russian purge technology”. With the power of her identity voice, she calls for facing the traumas of the past and for healing them, being aware that only in this way can Ukraine “break free” from the past and enter the world of European values. Her calls for getting to know and discovering Ukraine have resounded invariably for many years now, especially loudly in the current war reality. They are a cry for support, for the inclusion of the “Ukrainian world” in the European civilization circle. After all, as Zabuzhko argues, “Ukraine is part of Europe and defends it”.
