Summary/Abstract: For about 20 years, there has been a noticeable trend towards placing greater emphasis on multimodality in linguistics, both in the analysis of direct and digital communication. This research trend is represented by the publication „Pragmatik multimodal“, which was published in 2024 by Susanne Kabatnik, Lars Bülow, Marie-Luis Merten and Robert Mroczynski in the series „Studien zur Pragmatik“ and is presented in this article. The overall aim of the anthology is to close the research gap in the field of pragmatic research regarding multimodality and to present the diversity of pragmatically oriented studies focusing on multimodality. The volume consists of ten studies discussing various topics, such as negation, intensification, irony, co-construction of change, onomatopoeic interjections, communicative practices of football fans, speaker change in digital space, communicative practices of positioning and boundary setting by scientists, and much more. The material basis for the compiled studies is also very diverse. The contributions are based both on communication in the digital space (e.g. internet memes) and on direct in this volume clearly show that focusing on the multimodality of communication provides broad insight into its practices and dynamics.
