Summary/Abstract: The idea of simplified communication obtains legal foundations thanks to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The international treaty writes down the rights of people with disabilities and calls on States Parties to promote and enforce them in all areas of life, including accessible communication. Easy Language is considered an effective tool for this requirement, primarily intended for people with reading difficulties. The texts created in accordance with the Easy Language concept help people with disabilities live independently and thus strengthen the development of inclusive societies. The easily understandable texts are significantly simplified: both in terms of language (morphology, lexicon, syntax, text, semantics) and graphics. The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has also been published in Easy Language. In this intralingual translation, one can identify many different text simplifications, which belong to lexical transformations and improve text comprehensibility. Lexical simplification of texts should follow specific linguistic rules. Poland primarily uses a set of rules designed for European countries. The majority of the rules for the lexicon function as cross-linguistic guidelines. They have been supplemented by additional features in relation to the Polish language. The following text describes the three main strategies used in intralingual translation, lists the specific rules for translators of easy texts, and exemplifies the use of an easily understandable word based on a selected rule. However, since Easy Language is a concept developed from practice, the final comprehensibility check belongs to the persons with disabilities, who are the primary target group for easy-to-read texts.
