Summary/Abstract: In an imaginary room—an echo of a Sartrean huis clos functioning as a device for understanding evil, where there is no place for psychologizing explanations that might exonerate the executioners or cast any shadow of doubt over the victims or their suffering—Nathacha Appanah explores the theme of feminicide. She brings together, in a carceral setting, three male characters through whom she claims the right to probe a world marked by a violence that is almost impossible to name, to tell a collective story that is the identical story of three women, victims of these executioners, to whom she can thus give voice in a desperate attempt to come as close as possible—with surgical precision—to their lives, their minds, their bodies, and everything they experienced.
