Reading Tamási is still timely today

Summary/Abstract: Under the title Szellemi őrség (Spiritual Watch), a more than 600‑page collection of Áron Tamási’s writings—published between 1936 and 1965 and now scarcely accessible—appeared in Budapest in 2001. The volume contains essays, newspaper articles, and travel sketches through which he addressed not only his contemporaries but also his compatriots living today. It may not be useless to share a few of his particularly timely thoughts for reflection, for instead of boastful, irresponsible bluster, they may encourage all of us toward calm self‑restraint, sober self‑examination, and a kind of “revision of ourselves.”
