Summary/Abstract: Discernment has been part of our conceptual framework since the very beginnings of Christian theology. St. Basil the Great, and especially his brother, St. Gregory of Nyssa, spoke extensively about discernment in connection with the hypostases, adding that discernment is also a form of unifying. Along the synodal path, however, this concept appears on the agenda in a very different context.
