Tasks in the Church in the Light of Pastoral Letters

Summary/Abstract: The Pastoral Epistles (1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus) have an undeniable impact and significance, for they reveal the stage of the Church’s institutional development that most closely resembles the Church’s present-day institutional form. It is true that the earliest manifestations of the Church do not appear in the Pastoral Epistles, since its formation had already begun after the Resurrection. The ecclesial vision presented in the Pastoral Epistles reflects a more developed system. In the earlier Pauline letters, we can already discern the emergence of a community with rudimentary institutional characteristics.
