Etymological Layers in the Maramureș Lexicon

Summary/Abstract: Our study confirms that the Maramureș subdialect is a well-organized idiom from a lexical point of view. It has the ability to preserve old words and meanings unknown in other territorial branches of the Romanian language, as well as to borrow a multitude of lexemes from the languages of the populations with which it has come into contact over time, adapting them to its own phonological system.
