Summary/Abstract: The study examines the concept of musical beauty through the tension between order and dissonance, situating it within historical, aesthetic, and cultural contexts. Its point of departure is the Baroque conception of music as both divine in origin and mathematically comprehensible, with particular emphasis on affect theory and the structuring role of rhythm as an experience of time. Tracing a line from archaic rituals and trance states through the fundamental concepts of music theory – rhythm, metre, and tempo – the paper arrives at modern aesthetic experience, where the blurring boundary between musical sound and noise foregrounds the problem of dissonance. The argument advanced here is that dissonance should not be understood as the negation of order but as its necessary counterpart, one that ensures the dynamism of musical and cultural processes. In this perspective, the analysis of musical structures extends beyond music itself and contributes to the interpretation of rhythmical, cyclical, and systemic dimensions of human existence.
