Summary/Abstract: This text focuses on the mutual relations between the Charles University and National Museum in 1818–1938. It is based on an analysis of a group of specialised museum workers who prepared for their positions by study at the Prague university and, in their later career, their alma mater remained part of their professional activities. The author characterises three possible courses of career at university and the museum, illustrating them with the lives and careers of selected museum employees. This text also brings previously not studied findings about the organization of work in the National Museum in the first 120 years of its existence. This contribution is based on the rather scarce literature on the history of the National Museum and some of its departments as well as on primary sources from the Archive of the National Museum, especially personal files of some of its staff.
