Summary/Abstract: After the local elections of 2023, with all the excitement related to the event, the year 2024, from the point of view of territorial heraldry, was one characterized by calm and normality. The work on adopting and registering some previously approved symbols has been completed, the National Committee of Heraldry under the President of the Republic of Moldova has routinely approved other projects, some of the new mayors have started the procedure for developing local coats of arms and flags from the very first year of their activity. Thus, in 2024, by presidential decrees, the new coats of arms and flags of the following territorial units were registered in the General Armorial of the Republic of Moldova: Roșcani village, Anenii Noi district (Decree no. 1302-IX of January 15); Ocnița commune, district Ocnița, and the component villages of Ocnița and Maiovca (no. 1356-IX of March 4); Iezărenii Vechi village, Iezărenii Vechi commune, Sângerei district (no. 1357-IX of March 4); Valea Perjei village, Taraclia district (no. 1363-IX of March 12); Cărbuna village, Ialoveni district (no. 1455-IX of May 22); Stăuceni city, Chișinău municipality, and the component village of Goianul Nou (no. 1498-IX of June 24); Gaidar village, Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (no. 1507-IX of June 27); Popeasca village, Ștefan-Vodă district (no. 1538-IX of July 25); Copanca village, Căușeni district (no. 1539-IX of July 25); Mârzaci village, Mârzești commune, Orhei district (no. 1665-IX of November 28); Mașcăuți village, Criuleni district (no. 1701-IX of December 19); Pârlița village, Fălești district (no. 1702-IX of December 19). In total, this year 12 presidential decrees were issued to register territorial insignia in the General Armorial of the Republic of Moldova: for 13 villages, one commune and one city. The methods of developing the symbols remained traditional, predominating the process of the canting arms and the marking of natural, economic or cultural particularities. The main authors and painters of symbols were the same (S. Andrieș-Tabac, Mariana Șlapac, Andrei Gaidașenco, Tudor-Radu Tiron and others), but Stela Burciu, heraldic painter in the Heraldry Cabinet within the Office of the President of the Republic of Moldova, also marked her debut. From a geographical point of view, interest in symbols development remains in the center of the country. Even in 2024, the problems from previous years were not overcome: insufficient documentation of the locality’s history; lack of consensus on the concept of symbols in local councils; the lack of a sufficient number of theoretical heraldists and trained heraldic painters. These three problems, along with the fact that many mayors and local councils have not yet realized the importance of the local coat of arms, flag and anthem, complicate and slow down the process of providing the administrative-territorial units of the Republic of Moldova with heraldic identity signs.
