Summary/Abstract: This article is devoted to a set of nouns (strach ‘fear’, niepokój ‘anxiety’, rozpacz ‘despair’, przekonanie ‘conviction’, wątpliwość ‘doubt’) and analytical constructions. The material from the Nights and Days by Maria Dąbrowska includes the phrases from the descriptive parts and dialogues. The analysis comprises 423 phrases. The analysis will draw methodologically on lexical semantics, semantic syntax, stylistics. The classification and discussion focus on semantic and structure of analytical constructions, particularly those of the verbo-nominal. Inchoativity is shown by set of verbs in analytical units (such as dojść do przekonania, wpaść w rozpacz). Intensivity is driven by some verbs in analytical constructions (umacniać się w przekonaniu) and so graduality (nabierać przekonania) and causativity (budzić wątpliwości). The paper deals with the problem of periphrastic predication. Metaphorical units (such as rozpacz targała; strach miota, owładnął, przygnał, zmuszał; wątpliwości napastowały) are presented as a separate group. The argument position x, which is imminent component of emotional and intellectual predicates semantic structure, with the semantic role of experiencer corresponds with selected characters such as Barbara (frequently), Bogumił, Agnieszka and others.
