Linguistic means of expressing emotions in Łebki od Szpilki by Agnieszka Szpila from the perspective of memory linguistics

Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to analyze the text of an autobiographical novel in terms of linguistic means of expressing emotions in the context of memory linguistics. Research in neuroscience and psychology shows that there is a strong connection between emotions and remembering, experiencing and preservation in memory, hence the need to observe what memories are preserved in language and how, i.e. by what linguistic means. Biographical texts, written out of a need to preserve memories and experiences, are particularly rich sources of research material. The analysis takes a closer look at the ways in which emotions, accompanying symptoms and physical sensations are described linguistically and culturally in the context of Lisa Feldman Barrett’s theory of the construction of emotions.
