Summary/Abstract: This article examines how NATO has transformed the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda from a normative framework into an operational and institutionalized practice. While UNSCR 1325 established the global foundation for integrating gender perspectives into peace and security, NATO remains the only international security organization that has embedded this agenda within its military planning, command structures and operational mechanisms. By analyzing key documents such as the Bi-Strategic Command Directive 40-1 and the evolving advisory architecture developed since 2007, the article demonstrates how gender mainstreaming has become an instrument of operational effectiveness, strategic planning and institutional accountability. The study argues that NATO’s implementation of WPS is not merely symbolic, but constitutes a measurable and systematic transformation that links gender expertise to military doctrine, training, capability development and mission execution.
