Summary/Abstract: This article explores the life and career of Domnica Darienco, an exceptional actress whose contribution was significant to the development of theatrical arts in the Republic of Moldova. From her modest origins in Valea Hoțului to her celebrated role as Krucinina at the “A.S. Pușkin” Dramatic Theatre (today the National Theatre “Mihai Eminescu”), Domnica Darienco’s career spanned more than five decades, during which she performed over 100 roles, demonstrating her great talent and her ability to portray a wide range of characters with different destinies. The article is based on the analysis and study of pieces from the museum collection of the National Museum of History of Moldova, offering a nuanced perspective on her artistic journey. These materials complete fragments of Domnica Darienco’s life and artistic and cultural activity, once again highlighting her attitude toward her craft and the significant influence she had on Moldovan theatre. In addition, the article examines how, despite the intense cultural and theatrical competition within the USSR, Domnica Darienco managed to assert herself and become known among public officials in the Moldavian SSR and the USSR. Alongside roles that reflected socialist ideology, she also found space to promote genuine national values and the traditions of the people of Bessarabia.
