Summary/Abstract: Review of the book „After Work. A Histor y of the Home and the Fight for Free Time” - Hester, Helen – Srnicek, Nick: Až skončí práce. Dějiny domácnosti a boje za volný čas. Praha: Nakladatelství Alarm, 2024, 261 pages, ISBN 978-80-908712-6-7 The reviewed book addresses the issue of the lack of free time in economically developed societies. Rather than focusing primarily on the area of paid work, the au-thors consider activities related to maintaining households and social reproductionin general. They believe that the burden of this work, which affects women in parti-cular, cannot be solved simply with the help of new technologies; rather, it is necessary to change the basic norms that govern our everyday lives. The basis should consistof the transition from the nuclear family to other forms of coexistence, the weakeningof the functions of the state, including the welfare state, and the development of com-munity approaches to care. The review does not comment on these requirements, rather it draws attention to certain contradictions between proclaimed objectives andthe specific problems of today’s service society.
