Summary/Abstract: The article addresses various aspects of contemporary Catholic social teaching as embodied in the social encyclicals of Popes John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis, including the various connections with economic and political theories. Particular attention is devoted to discussions on the proximity of Catholic social teaching to neoliberal economic principles, i.e. the neoliberal model of globalisation and related topics, including inclusive capitalism as a postmodern theory of the transformation of capitalism. The article relativises simplified interpretations of Catholic social teaching stressing its principled incompatibility with the neoliberal globalist ideology. The authors conclude that the social teaching of the Catholic Church is strongly ambivalent in terms of its relationship to neoliberalism and global capitalism. In the opinion of the authors, the approaches of John Paul II and Francis in particular, despite their apparent criticism, facilitated the dominance of neoliberalism, including the neoliberal model of globalisation.
