Summary/Abstract: Archival documents contain interesting information about the owners, tenants, and founders (patrons) of Orhei, especially representatives of well‑known noble families such as Ganjerli, Grave, Skopovski, Erdeli, Jivkovici, Ianușevici, and Dolivo‑Dobrovolski. Initially, the county town was located on the lands of Eufrosinia Grave, Elena Popova, and Maria Jivkovici. In 1896, Flügeladjutant Ilia Jivkovici became the legal representative of the owners of the town of Orhei. In 1904, his daughter Elena leased the town of Orhei to the nobleman Leon Skopovski. Another tenant of the town was the nobleman Nikolai Mandro. In 1906, Bronislav Ianușevici, marshal of the nobility of Orhei County, became an honorary citizen. Orhei was considered a Jewish town, so it is not surprising that in 1910 the Jews Shlioma Gurevici and Froim Pagis opened the first cinema in the town. In 1911, John Peets from Great Britain, acting as the legal representative of his wife, Elena Jivkovici Peets, decided to install a water‑supply system in the town of Orhei. And in 1913, the town’s illusion‑theatre was opened, belonging to the Jewish entrepreneur Shlioma Tomașin. By 1914, construction of the Catholic Church in Orhei, in Neo‑Gothic style, had been completed; its founders were the noble Dolivo‑Dobrovolski family. Thus, all these owners, tenants, and patrons made a significant contribution to the socio‑economic and cultural development of the town of Orhei.
