Summary/Abstract: The article examines the axiological potential of word-building affixes in modern derivational processes. The research material was affixal neologisms in the texts of modern Russian electronic and print media, radio and television. The purpose of the work is to identify the factors determining the axiological potential of word-building affixes and the evaluativeness of neologisms in general. The study was conducted using structural-functional, as well as component analysis of neologisms. As a result, different groups of affixes (suffixes and prefixes) have been identified in terms of their expressive and evaluative function in derivational processes: affixes that exhibit their inherent evaluative character in derivational processes, marked by word-formation dictionaries; affixes that develop evaluative character in derivational processes in accordance with their semantics; affixes that lack expressive and evaluative characteristics, but which develop a certain evaluativeness in the derivational processes. The factors determining the evaluativeness (positive and/or negative) of affixes are characterized by semantic and stylistic features of affixes and motivating stems, structural and semantic parameters of word-building models, context conditions, extralinguistic factors.
