Summary/Abstract: The research follows the daily relations between the inhabitants of Moldavia and those of Wallachia in the 17th century and the first half of the 18th century and the aspects concerning the citizens of Moldavia settled south of Milcov. This investigation takes into account all social categories, the factors that led some to leave their homes and the way in which they were integrated into the communities of Wallachia. With the movement of the princes from Wallachia to Moldavia and vice versa, the ties between the boyars intensified. Some of the princes took their officials and relatives with them. There were boyars from Moldavia who owned properties (estate and houses) in Wallachia. The study also aims to investigate the presence of ordinary Moldavian inhabitants in the South Carpathian region. The ethnonym “Moldavian” is frequently found among the owners of land, among witnesses in trials and among those who bought, sold, and tested goods. The presence of Moldavian inhabitants south of Milcov was favored by the creation of slobozii where they were called by the princes and where they benefited for a period of exemption from taxes and other obligations. There are no statistical data on the Moldavian inhabitants settled in Wallachia, even the references are very brief, which is natural because most of them were refugees, but there must have been quite a few since, starting with the reign of Leon Tomșa (1629-1632), the “Moldavian tax” is mentioned. Following the documents of Wallachia and Moldavia, we find throughout the 17th century and in the first half of the 18th century numerous references to those who crossed the Milcov and settled for a period or even permanently south of the Carpathians.
