Summary/Abstract: Madness is a recurring and multilayered theme in the plays of William Shakespeare. It functions both as a narrative device and as a means of exploring the human psyche, revealing deeper truths about identity, morality, and social norms. This paper examines the role of madness in selected tragedies and comedies, with particular focus on Hamlet, King Lear, and Twelfth Night. Employing literary, psychoanalytic, and historical approaches, the study analyzes the construction and performance of madness and its implications for power, gender, and perception. The research also integrates the latest scholarly findings (2020–2025) to provide a contemporary understanding of Shakespearean madness within the context of early modernism and modern interpretations
