Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to present changes in births in the rural parish of Biesiadki in the years marked by three cholera epidemics and the greatest famine in Galicia. The main source used in the work were the Liber Natorum of the Biesiadki parish from 1840–1879. The annual number of births, their monthly seasonality, day intervals between births and baptisms, the scale of extramarital and multiple births, the selection of names and godparents and the midwives’ activity were analyzed. Statistical, comparative and case study methods were used. The research revealed that births were usually delivered by local village midwives.
