Summary/Abstract: This study deals with the life and works of Dr Ethem Bakar (1877-1945), who lived during the twilight of the Ottoman Empire and the formative years of the Turkish Republic, leaving behind significant scientific and intellectual contributions. Born in Salonica and completing his medical education in Istanbul, Dr Bakar pursued a specialization in internal medicine in France. Beyond being a physician, he also secured a place among the intellectuals of his time through his scholarly contributions. His scientific travels and research, particularly on the treatment of tuberculosis, along with his work Terbiye-i İrade (The Education of Will), granted him an interdisciplinary intellectual identity. However, despite his considerable influence during his lifetime, his intellectual legacy has long been overlooked, and his biography has not been thoroughly examined.
