Summary/Abstract: The text presents comparative cognitive models of the animalistic concept extracted from the LABMETA and PhrasoLab-BG electronic corpora – electronic resources of the Aksela Lazarova Laboratory of Applied Linguistics at the Konstantin Preslavski University of Shumen. The LABMETA platform contains metaphors extracted from the speeches of contemporary Bulgarian politicians. The animalistic images used are subordinate to the metaphorical context associated with the functional characteristics of demagogy, framing, and rhetorical persuasion. In the taxonomy of metaphors, animalistic uses are represented through their specific connotations and their pragmatic function in speech. The conclusions are related to the stylistic features of cognitive metaphors in political discourse as a means of expressing emotion and influence through manipulation. The Phrasolab-BG platform also presents the cognitive projections of animalistic images used in fixed expressions. PhrasoLab-BG contains phraseological units in Bulgarian and German, positioned in a comparative plan at both the linguistic and cognitive levels. This study presents some of the phraseological units relating to several human qualities – good/bad, hardworking/lazy, intelligent/stupid and honest/dishonest. They are related to the axiology of human nature.
