Summary/Abstract: The case of Cénabre’s possession in L’Imposture allows us to distinguish a type of alienation often associated with the fantastic register from mental alienation. This can be seen as an alienation from evil. Through a realistic aesthetic and theatrical effects, the author introduces the presence of the supernatural into the human world, making the reader a witness of the invisible world in order to question evil.
