Summary/Abstract: Philip K. Dick’s novel Valis encourages a literary and psychological approach. It does not simply consider alienation as the theme of the story or the state of mind of the author, but shows that it is the prime principle on which the novel is based. The aim is both to analyze the creative function of alienation in the writing process and to explore the clinical experience of the alienated mind. In doing so, we examine the journey from alienation to mysticism.
