Summary/Abstract: Where does the true and ultimate alienated person of modern times hide? Beyond the dispossessed (alienation from the outside, characteristic of the marginalized and excluded) and the possessed (alienation from the inside, characteristic of the madman), the ultimate alienation perhaps resides in the existential borderline situation of self-disappearance and should be sought in the “deadbeat” of the gulag or in the “Muselmann” of Auschwitz, or in the survivor confronted with his imminent death, becoming forever other and paradoxically himself.
