Summary/Abstract: The Rugova Mountains are notable for their rare natural heritage values. The geographical position, relief, climate, water resources, landscapes, canyons, rich flora and fauna are ideal prerequisites and high potential for the development of ecotourism. Ecotourism is a form of tourism focused on responsible travel to natural areas, promoting conservation and benefiting local communities. It includes activities that increase visitors' appreciation of natural and cultural values, minimizing ecological impacts and contributing to the well-being of the environment and the local population. The paper examines the role of ecotourism in management and preservation of natural resources in the Rugova area of Pejë. Rugova, well-known for its spectacular mountain sceneries, clean streams, and rich biodiversity, has great potential to become an important destination marketed regionally. The analysis focuses on how nature-oriented tourist activities may contribute to ecosystem conservation, promotion of sustainable practices, involvement of the local community, along with economic benefits cascaded from organized tourism. The study points out the importance of developing appropriate tourism infrastructure like access roads, rest areas, accommodation, and support services that enable tourists to visit without harming the ecosystems. The best practices in natural resource management and challenges on the perturbed tourist pressure are identified by bringing together scientific literature, interviews with local stakeholders, and field observations. The findings indicate that ecotourism may serve as a strategic tool for creating a balance between economic development and infrastructure with nature conservation while enhancing environmental awareness and destination sustainability. The present paper puts forward recommendations on the policies and management strategies complementing the sustainable development of Rugova as a tourism destination. This paper provides recommendations for policies and management strategies that support the sustainable development of Rugova as a tourist destination. The study concludes that the development of ecotourism in Rugova should be based on long-term strategies, clear environmental standards and active involvement of the local community to ensure the conservation of natural resources and the sustainable development of the area. Ecotourism is the ideal solution for those who want to travel, enjoy and learn about nature while actively contributing to its preservation. Making responsible decisions leads us towards a greener and more sustainable future in all aspects, where future generations will also be able to enjoy the treasures that nature offers us today
