Summary/Abstract: The study deals with the life and work of PhDr. Václav Mattauch, a teacher, historian, scholar and regional researcher whose personal and professional fate was significantly influenced by the political changes of the 20th century and the ruling regimes. The thesis is divided into two parts – the first describes his life path, persecution during communism and life after the ban on teaching, the second deals with his professional activities, especially his historical studies and regional publications, which contributed to the preservation of cultural memory and are still used today. The aim was to reconstruct his story using archival sources, oral history and scholarly literature and to place it in a broader contemporary context and to show how political loyalty influenced his teaching and research activities and the consequences of his refusal to adapt to the regime.
