Summary/Abstract: The so often observed boredom on the part of learners, provoked both by a lack of interest, excessive workload in the learning process and the resulting stress, and by the excessive pedantry of the teachers, could be overcome by motivating learning methods, techniques, and forms. Even if the best teaching methods are applied, motivation appears to be a decisive factor in learning achievement in foreign language teaching. The paper presents various definitions describing motivation as a construct, including a neurodidactic perspective. Since positive emotions support the emergence and maintenance of motivation, their psychological, cognitive, expressive, and motivational components are examined. The relationship of emotions to emotional intelligence, emotional competence, and emotional learning, as well as to the communicative and cognitive function of language, is presented. Examples of motivating teaching methods, techniques and tools are given. The ways in which student interns manage to motivate their learners are explored.
