Professor Ivan Pankovski (1913-1987) - personality, scientific-theological creativity and church-academic work

Summary/Abstract: The year 2023 marks 100 years since the establishment of the Faculty of Theology at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and 110 years since the birth of the distinguished theologian and long-time lecturer at our higher theological school, Prof. Dr. Ivan Panchovski (1913-1987). He is one of our leading Christian thinkers and Bulgarian Orthodox theologians in the 20th century, who made a serious scientific contribution in the field of Orthodox Christian moral theology, Christian ethical and religious-philosophical studies, as well as in the field of Christian sociology, apologetics and psychology of religion. Prof. Dr. Ivan Panchovski worked throughout his long academic and creative career at the Faculty of Theology (1944-1049) and at the Theological Academy (1940-1980) mainly in the field of Christian ethics, but also in many other areas of theology and church science such as hagiology, church history, psychology of religion, religious pedagogy, apologetics, history of religion, and other scientific areas of philosophical ethics and systematic theology.
