Summary/Abstract: Theological education in Bulgaria in the past and today, in the continuation of its development, has been built in the spirit of the cultural and educational traditions of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and in dialogue with Western universities’ scientific directions and trends in Europe. It interacts with the academic achievements of the Russian Orthodox emigration in our country and in other European countries and with the achievements of theological education in other Orthodox churches and neighboring countries. Bulgarian theological education in post-liberation Bulgaria, and above all in the first decades of the twentieth century, has always been oriented towards the spiritual traditions and covenants of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, the spiritual, cultural and educational ideals of the Bulgarian Revival and has been determined by the educational tasks of the Bulgarian Exarchate until the mid-twentieth century and of the Bulgarian Patriarchate from the mid-1950s to the present day.
