Summary/Abstract: Edible Notions explores how artificial intelligence reflects and reshapes cultural narratives through food examples. Created during the Summer Sessions residency program in 2024, the project examines biases in AI datasets by training models with contrasting perspectives on biomaterials like avocados, tomatoes, and mushrooms. Through speculative dining and audiovisual elements, the installation invites reflection on how technology perpetuates, distorts, or challenges food-related histories. By “feeding” both humans and AI, the work highlights the parallels between biological consumption and digital knowledge intake, questioning how perspectives embedded in AI influence our understanding of food, culture, and technology’s role in shaping them.
