Summary/Abstract: The diphthong /ue/ has undergone an evolution in Judeo-Spanish, within a group of words, unknown in Spanish (tuerto ‘one eyed person’ > tugüerto, atuendo ‘pan’ > atgüendo, etc.). We revise the development proposal for this evolution in the first part of this paper. We also examine the results for nuera ‘daughter-in-law’ since it is one that presents more evolutions in Judeo-Spanish and it partly bears out this hypothesis. The main contribution of this study is the analysis of a possible variant of nuera, nuguera, which has been ignored so far due to a different interpretation of its meaning. Here we detail how nuguera is likely an initial development of nuera that it is clearly in line with the expected evolution of this word.
