Summary/Abstract: The article examines how Polish observers, writers, and political activists drew symbolic parallels between Spain and Poland, especially during the Spanish Civil War. Both countries were seen as borderlands, situated at the intersection of divergent cultures and religions, and as arenas of conflict between fascism and communism. Polish commentators often depicted Spain’s plight as a harbinger of Poland’s future, stressing fears of threats from Soviet and Nazi forces. The debate on the war’s significance was marked by sharp polarisation and propaganda, with nationalist and Catholic groups in Poland backing the Francoist side and using antisemitic rhetoric. Spain’s war was interpreted not as a mere civil war but as a testing ground for Europe’s looming ideological clash.
