The Local Republic of Letters: A statistical analysis of the Romanian Postmillennial literary field

Summary/Abstract: The working hypothesis of this paper is that the Romanian cultural field undergoes a significant process of transformation after Romania joins the European Union – a moment that the critical and historiographic consensus deems the end of the post-Communist transition. Using a statistical analysis on the reception of Romanian literature published between 2007 and 2017 in seven of the most important cultural magazines, the study will try to assess the efficiency and validity of cultural journalism not only as a means of sustaining a healthy relationship between contemporary literature and the general public, but also as an instrument traditionally put in place of professional/academic criticism.
