Summary/Abstract: The documentary filmography of Ana Iuriev, one of the few female directors active within the “Moldova-Film” studio, reflects a varied thematic repertoire, anchored in the aesthetic and ideological conventions of Soviet cinema. The analysis follows the way in which the director constructs representations of women, children, work and social realities of the Moldavian S.S.R., highlighting both the conformity with the official discourse as well as the moments of critical tension towards it. Thestudy is based on the viewing of films recently recovered from the archive and their interpretation from a historical and genderperspective, with an emphasis on the stylistic and thematic specificity of the author. The results outline a coherent filmography,in which the documentary observation, narrative voice and interest in people make up a distinct cinematic discourse, valuableboth for the history of Moldovan film and for understanding the social imaginary of the Soviet period.
