Summary/Abstract: This article explores the role of artistic and imaginative perception as a precondition for engineering and technical activity. The author analyses the interrelation between aesthetic and rational modes of thinking, which proves to be fundamental for processes such as construction, design, and engineering modelling. The significance of imagination, metaphor, and analogy in the generation of novel technical solutions is examined, alongside the influence of aesthetic categories – such as harmony, symmetry, and proportion – on technological development. The article emphasises that engineering should be understood not solely as an exact science, but also as an art that relies upon creative vision and the capacity for image-based thinking. Historical examples are considered to illustrate the role of artistic thought in technological discoveries. The author proposes approaches for integrating the humanities and technical knowledge within contemporary education, aimed at fostering a harmonious synthesis of creativity and rationality in engineering practice.
