Summary/Abstract: This study aims to examine the social costs of platform labor, precarity, and family through Ken Loach’s film Sorry We Missed You. In the study, the film is considered a cultural text that highlights the insecurity and vulnerability created by the neoliberal labor regime; the effects of the gig economy on family structure, care work, and social protection mechanisms are evaluated using descriptive analysis. A theoretical framework was established by drawing on current national and international literature. The findings indicate that the income instability, long working hours, lack of social security, and intrafamily conflicts faced by the characters in the film correspond to the forms of structural insecurity emphasized in the academic literature on the platform economy. As a result, the study reveals that the apparent flexibility of the gig economy actually places intense pressure on labor; the need for social security has increased and it leads to the weakening of family ties. Therefore, it is suggested that redefining the legal status of platform workers, making algorithmic supervision transparent, and strengthening social protection mechanisms are essential policy requirements.
