Summary/Abstract: This literature-based review examines technical standards and hygiene principles in hairdressing, skin care, and makeup practices within a holistic framework. Although beauty and personal care services are primarily perceived as aesthetic applications, direct skin contact, repetitive procedures, and the use of multi-purpose equipment pose significant risks in terms of hygiene and infection control. Relevant national and international literature was reviewed, focusing on technical application processes, hand hygiene, equipment and environmental hygiene, and waste management. The findings indicate that despite differences in technical procedures across application areas, hygiene violations lead to similar infection risks through shared mechanisms such as microtrauma formation, disruption of skin barrier integrity, and equipment contamination. In conclusion, this review highlights that technical standards and hygiene principles in hairdressing, skin care, and makeup practices should not be addressed independently but within an integrated infection control approach. Such a holistic perspective is essential for enhancing application safety and strengthening professional standards in beauty and personal care services.
