Summary/Abstract: Attempt of British navy and its diplomats to force the Ottoman Porte to change its relationship with France resulted with brave naval expedition. Expedition meant sending forces which were small in numbers to the center of the big empire. Despite being better equipped and more bellicose, British navy squadron could not accomplish the task. Fleet was stopped by poor weather conditions and strong sea current. Moreover, the decision to make negotiations with Ottoman Porte meant that opportunity for fast arrival at Constantinople and quicker attack was missed. Well-designed plan remained unaccomplished and British position in face of France and Napoleon remained same, if not worse than before the expedition. On contrary, the Ottomans gained more time for strengthening its defense of the capital city and wisely used poor weather and negotiations with the British.
