Summary/Abstract: With the comprehensive inquiries into the concept and the phenomenon of conscience developed by Professor Milenko A. Perović, contemporary philosophical thought has gained a new value. Considering various texts from Professor Perović's wide-ranging work, the author examines the historical, anthropological, and onto-logical moments of the concept of conscience, as well as the way in which conscience is understood within Perović's systematically developed ethical conception. In philosophical dialogue with Hegel's thought and his concept of conscience, Professor Perović discerns in conscience the epochal value, but also the limit of the principle of the modern civil subjectivity. In the second part of the paper, Perović's understanding of conscience is examined from the perspective of its encounter with the leading conceptions of conscience in contemporary philosophy, such as those of Nietzsche and Heidegger. Perović's critical analysis of these conceptions itself constitutes an authentic contribution to contemporary philosophy.
