Summary/Abstract: In the village of Sirogojno, at the beginning of the 1980s, by dislocating wooden buildings in which large cooperative families once lived in the Zlatibor area, the first ethnographic open-air ambient setting in Serbia was created. Buildings of folk architecture, which are categorized as cultural monuments of exceptional importance, along with ethnographic exhibits, represent a narrative about the life of cooperative families in the countryside in the second half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. According to the principles of contemporary museology, open-air museum exhibitions have their advantages and disadvantages, which we try to solve by reviving the environment and museological interpretation of certain segments of culture. Are the models of revival of the setting sufficient to explain the phenomenon of family and family life, or is it necessary to use multiple narratives in the interpretation are the questions that form the backbone of the work. In methodological terms, the paper relies on the documentation of the Open-Air Museum “Old Village” and relevant data from the available literature.
